Bucktail Veterans Day Program Goes Virtual
FARWELL – For the past eighteen years, Bucktail High School has hosted a well-received Veterans Day Assembly. This year the invisible enemy, COVID-19, interrupted the plans for the annual assembly.
As explained by program coordinator Patricia Wilson, organizers had to move to “Plan B,” putting together a Virtual Veterans Day Assembly. With the help of American Legion Post 442, Rich Wykoff, The Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park, students, and staff from Bucktail Area High School, the Virtual Assembly became a reality.
The organization and creation of a video brought the group into uncharted territory. Led by the theme, “Sacrifice,” they believe that this virtual program provides a patriotic experience for all age groups. The video is a compilation of images, music, and cell phone videos of local veterans and participants in previous Veterans Day programs. Wilson said, “We are very proud of what has been accomplished in this online collaboration and hope that you will enjoy our program honoring all Veterans on this 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 2020.”
The assembly provides a lesson on the history of Veteran’s Day and respect for those who have served in all branches of the American military. The video is being shared with students on Wednesday, Veterans Day, and publicly released on the Keystone Central School District social media site at 11 a.m. on the same day, November 11, 2020.
The Bucktail virtual program is one of a number of Veterans Day recognitions throughout the Keystone Central School District even as district schools are closed and instruction continues online. Additional student work will also be shared through the district’s social media outlets.
