Letter to the Editor 10/16
Editor:
Margie Brown is running to represent you in PA Senate District 25 (along with all the residents of Cameron, Clinton, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, Potter, Tioga and part of Clearfield counties). The incumbent Joe Scarnati is retiring. Since Margie has lived with her bipartisan family in our district her entire life, she’s one of us and would take on Harrisburg for District 25.
Margie comes well qualified—she’s been a city councilwoman, a public school teacher, a university instructor, a broadcast journalist and a mom and grandmother. She decided to run for office perhaps as an extension of her many volunteer positions on boards and other community programs. “I believe in public service” Margie says, adding that this office is for the people; many elected officials are followers—of their party and the money. She wants to work for us.
In writing to support Margie, I mostly love her dream—to bring the 21st century to our district, while preserving our rural way of life that she’s always lived. When I talk to my family and neighbors, it’s the economy we’re worried about. Margie is concerned about our District’s 18,000 unemployed, plus the many others who are underemployed—making our district’s average annual income nearly $20,000 less than the PA average. Margie knows there are many existing state and federal programs for jobs, utilities, school readiness, health care and businesses. Along with many businesses who struggled with red tape during the pandemic, Margie knows that you have to know how to do all that paperwork. She wants to untangle that for our district.
Right now, District 25 is over-taxed and under-served. Margie will bring some of that back to us. Vote for Margie Brown; she loves our district, and will work for our lives to be better. (Link to Margie Brown’s website: https://friendsofmargiebrown.com/2-Welcome)
