LOCK HAVEN – The city fire department now has a back-up ladder truck while its current unit remains out of service. The city recently obtained a used 105-foot Pierce ladder truck from the Union Fire Department in Oxford, PA. The truck is housed at the Hope-Hose Fire Company No. 2; trained operators include Hopes fire chief Will Harber, left, and driver/company captain Tyler Wooding, right. Mayor Rick Vilello said city council will finalize the $35,000 purchase at its next meeting next Monday. Vilello said longtime city fire official Bob Neff found the truck through contact with the Pierce company. It is a 1989 model with 27,000 miles. Meanwhile the future of the city’s current $800,000 ladder truck remains unresolved. The truck is one of 159 such trucks manufactured by a Georgia company, all at least temporarily out of service because of a ladder mechanism problem. Record photo – John Lipez
