Mary Jane Daugherty – Obituary

On June 17, 2020, Mary Jane Daugherty of Newfane, NY died at the eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport, NY following a lengthy illness.  She was born to the late Ralph and Olivette (Wertz) Daugherty, then of South Renovo, PA, on April 17, 1950 at the Renovo Hospital.

In 1954 she moved with her family to Lockport, graduating from Newfane Central School in 1968.  Living in Lockport-Newfane area since that time, she worked first as a nurses aid and later as a cafeteria worker at Newfane Central.

She was a devoted mother to her children Michael and Jennifer Porter and to her step-son Anthony Porter, Jr., all of whom survive her.  She is also survived by her granddaughter Alana Brunning.

The youngest of her siblings, she is survived by her brothers Ralph (Marilyn) Daugherty of Butler, PA and Raymond (Carol) Daugherty of Fredonia, NY and her sister Donna Daugherty of Clintonville, PA. “Aunt Janie” is survived by several nieces and nephews and also by several cousins.  She is survived by one aunt, Twila Daugherty, who thrives in Orange City, FL.
Raised in Free Methodist churches in South Renovo and Lockport, she attended the Grace Baptist Church in Newfane most of her adult life.

In spite of many challenges and difficulties as a single parent, she maintained a gracious, generous, and creative spirit.  Her ready smile and engaging sense of humor will be missed by her family, friends, and members of her community.  Most of all, we will remember that she loved us and her animals.

There will be a memorial family gathering at the Gospel Camp Cemetery in Hammersley Fork, PA later in the summer.
