THE DISTRICT JUSTICE OFFICE IS DONE!

Clinton County Commissioner Jeff Snyder was proud as a peacock (I know it’s a much over used cliché) this week when he triumphantly announced to the Renovo Community Trade Association that the new district court office in Renovo is DONE, completely renovated and ready for occupancy.

The announcement marks the culmination of a four-year effort of the county commissioners to replace the existing district court on Third Street. The new office is in a building at the corner of Ninth Street and Erie Avenue that was formerly a barber shop operated by Johnny Mattioli and later as an insurance office.

Snyder said the commissioners put their all into the district court project, and by going the route they did saved over $286,000. Going their way was a circuited route indeed. At one point they purchased a property in Renovo at Third Street that was deemed unsuitable, and another point they purchased the former Pentz property along Route 120 that also proved unsuitable. And making either one of them suitable would have been grossly unaffordable. Bids they had been given were well over $500,000, way over the budget they were considering.

The newly finished court office is far more palatable.

Congratulations commissioners on a job well done.

The open house date will be announced later.

Anybody collecting coupons? …

Mary Louise Stephens informs us she has collected an envelope full of the little “points” on cereal boxes etc. that say education on them. She would like to know if anyone collects them or knows someone who collects them and the “Betty Crocker” coupons.

Mary Louise also sends along a note to add a little humor: “Most people know that Frank Morton IS NOT my brother as stated under the CC Fairs “Sizzling Senior” picture. We both got a chuckle out of it. Especially Frank! Frank was in the Army “Special Forces” for 23 yrs. NOT 45!!

Calling on Bucktail Band Alumni …

A Record reader sends a note of information she saw on FaceBook that was posted by music teacher Karen Neff: “Calling all Bucktail (and other) band alumni! As the numbers prohibit a marching band this year at Bucktail Area High School, I have been given permission to open the doors to a community Pep Band. The first game is September 5. Rehearsal will be from 5 (ish) until 6:45 in the band room at the high school. Break out your best Cherry and White, practice the cheer and the Alma Mater and be ready to have a good time.

Please call the school 570-923-1166 and give Dionne your name, instrument, and whether you need to borrow one from the school or have one of your own and a I’ll have a folder of music ready for you to take home and practice. It’s OK if you can’t make all the games. Come when you can. I need every instrument.”

PRR group at work again …

Renovo’s PRR (Preserve, Renew, Restore) group is at it again. Pattie Rauch tells us the group has been cleaning and power washing the wall at the river where the old Eighth Street Bridge was this week. Pattie, who is one of the few people I stand eye level with, said she was picked to wash the high section of the wall. She, however, chose to work on the lower, closer to the cleanup will again have the town ready for the annual Flaming Foliage Festival when we all want our area to be at its Sunday best.

A Christian Youth Group …

Pete Kingsley, former owner of Yesterdays, was in town recently and said he would like to Christian Youth Group organized in Renovo. He said the recreation center in Renovo and its splendid swimming pool offer ideal opportunities for activities for youth. Kingsley was one of the community leaders who in the 1980s conducted an all out effort to have the recreation center built and the swimming pool from the former YMCA restored and back into use. The swimming pool is still in use today.
