Lady Wildcats Shut Out Williamsport, 5-0

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Central Mountain girls’ tennis team continued its stellar 2020 season with a 5-0 win over down river rival Williamsport. The Lady Wildcats won all five matches in two sets each, moving to 7-1 on the year.

Coach Pete Wert was pleased with the play up and down his line-up, but had particular words of praise for number one singles player, Carolina Carpenetti. The Lady Wildcat senior had a competitive match with Williamsport’s Mary Hillman. Carpenetti battled to a 6-4 win in the first set and took the second, 6-1. Both sets featured extended volleys between the two number ones. Wert said it made for a “very exciting match” and lauded Carpenetti for what he called “the senior adjustments” she made between sets, changing her approach when things were not going as well in the first set.

The victory saw number two Olivia Anastos and number three Kati Kwiatek both remain undefeated on the year, each 8-0 at this point of the season.

Central Mountain will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the Gibson Family Tennis Center at Central Mountain High School, hosting Jersey Shore. Match time will be 4 p.m.
