FARWELL – The Bucktail girls tennis team has a history of success and co-coaches Alison and Dan Heiser hope that run will continue this fall. The team is off to a 1-0 start after last week’s 5-0 win over Muncy. A match with Cowanesque Valley was postponed due to rain. Next up is a home contest with South Williamsport on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.

The team consists of eight players: seniors Christina Delatorre and Angela Intallura; junior Emma Poorman; sophomores Kayla Probert, Bella English and Kori Prebble; and ninth graders Makenzie Wagner and Alexis Lowry.

Coming off an 8-2 mark a year, the Lady Bucks look to be led by the two seniors, Delatorre and Intallura. The coaches said both “will lead with great play and character” and said the success of last season will help this season.

The six returners all have some experience as a starter. And the two new players, according to the coaches, are very coachable and athletic, “So we are looking forward to seeing what they will bring. Collectively they are a fantastic group of girls.” All work hard, it was noted. Coach Alison Heiser said, “They all work hard. I look forward to seeing their growth as the season progresses.”

She said the goal for 2020 is the same: “Every year the goal is the same; to try to do our best as coaches, so that not only we can have a successful season, but also so that ‘our girls’ can enjoy their time as high school tennis players. And that we help ignite a love for tennis that will last them a lifetime.”

COVID-19 has brought about many changes, according to coach Heiser: “We were a bit overwhelmed getting started last week, as we were trying to plan practices while also being mindful of all the guidelines. Taking temperatures was not something I ever thought I’d be doing as a tennis coach. However, we have been able to adapt and so have the players. They all have been good-spirited about everything; no complaining or negativity. We are all working together to make sure we are all safe. The parents have been very understanding and supportive, even though it will not be easy for them.”
