Central Mountain Tennis Topples Montour, 4-1

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Central Mountain girls’ tennis team, off to a 3-0 start, was challenged on Friday by Montoursville but was up to the challenge, earning a 4-1 win.

Head coach Pete Wert said he was happy his squad had a difficult match, which he said he was expecting coming into the contest. He said he wanted to see the Lady Wildcats struggle a bit to “see what they can do under pressure.” They did well, taking two of three singles and both doubles matches.

The most competitive match was at number one doubles where Central Mountain veterans Caitlyn Dale and Ella Talbot staged a 90-minute, three-set showdown with Montoursville’s Kara Mann and Libby McNamara. The Lady Warrior duo took the first set on a 7-6 tiebreaker, but Dale and Talbot took the second, 6-4, setting up a third set tiebreaker which the CM duo won by a 10-7 score.

Montoursville fell to 0-3 with the loss, previously losing to Central Cambria and Loyalsock by identical 3-2 scores. The undefeated Lady Wildcats are off until Tuesday, Sept. 8 when they host Milton at 4 p.m.
