Lydia F. Miller – Obituary

ObitArtLydia F. Miller, 95, a lifetime resident of Lock Haven, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014 at her home.

Born February 24, 1919 in Ramey, Pa, she was the daughter of Anna and John J. Morton of Lock Haven.

Lydia attended St. Agnes School and was a graduate of Lock Haven High School, class of 1939.

Lydia married her high school sweetheart, Willard C. Miller of Lock Haven on August 22, 1940. Willard served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was lost at sea in 1945, when he was swept overboard from the USS Boise in route to Le Havre, France.

Before entering the Army, the couple moved to Buffalo, NY and supported the war effort by working for the aircraft manufacturer, Curtiss-Wright.

Like her namesake, St. Francis, Lydia loved “all creatures great and small.” She was forever rescuing abandoned animals, the most recent, her beloved cat, “Speedy.” Lydia had a green thumb and was an avid gardener who loved to weed in her flower garden.

Lydia had an indomitable spirit throughout her life and was known for her quick mind and straight forward manner, and great sense of humor, which will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret A. (Michael) Walsh of Willow Grove; her loving nieces and nephews: Margo (Brett) Meeker of Rowayton, CT, Matthew S. Walsh of Willow Grove, John B. (Terri) Morton and their children, Juliana (Christian) Sirianni and John B. Morton, Jr. of Philadelphia; and additional family, Betty Langley and Louie, Brent and Diane Langley of Williamsport, and Dean and Joy Seybold of Butler, AL.

Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John B. Morton of Lock Haven and Charles P. Morton of Philadelphia; and her loving companion of nearly 50 years, George E. Seybold of Lock Haven.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the St. Agnes Cemetery Chapel, Glenn Road, Lock Haven at 1p.m. with Rev. Father Joseph Orr officiating.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 11am to 12:30pm at the Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name through the funeral home to the Clinton County SPCA or the Dunnstown and Woolrich Fire Companies.
