LHU set for Women’s Wrestling Camp
LHU to host Women’s Wrestling Camp & Coaches Leadership Academy August 7-10
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven University wrestling program is set to host a Women’s Wrestling Camp and Coaches Leadership Academy.
The camp and academy will take place on the campus of LHU from Thursday, August 7 to Sunday, August 10.
The Coaches Leadership Academy is being sponsored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) allowing all participants in both programs to attend free of charge in an effort to expand opportunities for women’s wrestling.
The Coaches Leadership Academy will be held at the same time as LHU’s Women’s Wrestling Camp, which will be led by word-class staff, including LHU head wrestling coach Scott Moore.
Also on staff is United States Women’s National Coach Terry Steiner, United States Women’s National Assistant Coach & FILA National Cadet Head Coach Erin Tomeo and United States Assistant Coach & LHU graduate Emma Randall.
A total of 27 coaches and 50 athletes will be in attendance later this week.
Randall is excited to return to Lock Haven and help grow the sport of women’s wrestling.
“I am proud to see my alma matter support the movement by hosting the 2014 Women’s Wrestling and Coaches Academy,” said Randall. “Women’s wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and this event will not only bring together the best female grapplers, but also bring a generation of women’s coaches together to lead them.”
Steiner is also looking forward to his trip back to Mat Town U.S.A.
“Lock Haven University has had a tradition rich men’s wrestling program dating back 40 and 50 years,” Steiner said. “Now, Lock Haven University is taking a leading-role in developing and enhancing the sport even more.”
The Lock Haven Coaches Academy is playing an important role in developing our next generation of passionate young coaches. The course will not only cover the technical basics on the mat but will also focus on the important differences of coaching both men and women in this great sport. As USA Wrestling’s Women’s National Team Coach, I am excited to see that Lock Haven University sees the importance in not only developing our next great athletes but also investing in our next great coaches,” added Steiner.
