Lady Wildcats fall to Shikellamy, 36-23

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – In another tough outing, the Lady Wildcat basketball team came up short, this time falling to Shikellamy, 36-23 at home.

Central Mountain is still struggling trying to implement a consistent offense. In back-to-back games, the Lady ‘Cats have had scoreless quarters. Tonight it was the third quarter that proved troublesome. After keeping step with the Lady Braves in the first half, CM had a 16-15 lead at the half. Shikellamy then put up 13 unanswered points in the third quarter while the Lady Wildcats couldn’t muster a single point that gave the Lady Braves a 28-16 lead.

The Lady ‘Cats did have better luck in the fourth quarter, edging Shik, 8-7 but it wasn’t be enough to make up the difference.

“Obviously we’re just not a good offensive basketball team right now,” said CM head coach Scott Baker of his squad’s effort of late, “We were 3 of 26 from the three-point line, we’ve got to get more post touches. Right now we’re standing out on the three-point line chucking up shots. We probably had more air balls tonight than balls in the basket. We’ve got to do some soul searching.”

Quinlynn McCann led the way for Cm with 12 points, Avery Baker had 5 points while Kiahna Jones, Mia Kopysciansky, and Alyssa Fisher all score 2 points each.

The loss takes Central Mountain to 5-11 overall, 2-8 in PHAC play.

On the bright side, the Lady Wildcats held a Coaches vs Cancer event to raise funding and awareness of the fight against cancer. The even was coordinated by Central Mountain juniors, Alyssa Fisher and Trevor Adair for their senior projects, dedicating the event to Aiden Fowler a CM student that passed away in 2016 and was a schoolmate of many of the current members of the Wildcat and Lady Wildcat basketball teams.

At halftime, Heather Fowler, Aiden’s mother, shared a remembrance of her son’s fight against the dreaded disease and the need for continued research and treatment development for childhood cancer.

The Coaches vs Cancer event will be held tomorrow night as well when the boys’ team will also host Shikellamy.
