Bridge Funding Announced for Bald Eagle Valley Trail

From staff reports
LOCK HAVEN – The office of Clinton County Planning Director Katherine de Silva announced on Monday that full funding has been secured for improvements to a bridge on the Bald Eagle Valley Trail. The most recent grants came in last week and provide sufficient funds for the abandoned bridge over the Susquehanna River east of the Wayne Township Landfill.

The planning office announcement:

Full funding for the Bald Eagle Valley Trail Susquehanna River Crossing Project has been awarded to Clinton County. This is for construction cost for the conversion of an 860-foot abandoned railroad bridge for bicycle-pedestrian use. This bridge will bring the BEVT closer to its final connection with Lycoming County and the Pine Creek Rail Trail. It extends between Wayne and Pine Creek Townships.

The full construction cost of the project, which is Phase 4 of the 11.5-mile trail, is $2,058,456 (including project contingency). This funding was provided through a partnership between the County Commissioners, DCNR, and Penndot, as follows:

The PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation Trail Grants Program:

$250,000 awarded January 21, 2020.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Transportation Alternatives Program

$1,087,197 awarded in 2018 for construction

$621,259 additional funding awarded January 23, 2020

The Clinton County Act 13 Bridge Fund

$100,000 allocated for bridge construction on January 16, 2020

The Bald Eagle Valley Trail, named for the ridge-and-valley Appalachian Mountain area through which the trail passes, is a project of Clinton County Government, with partners Castanea, Wayne and Pine Creek Townships, the Clinton County Solid Waste Authority, and the Clinton County Visitors Bureau. The western sections of the 11.5-mile bicycle/pedestrian trail are complete and open for public use, while others are still under development.

The trail traverses former railroad bed, abandoned township roads and active farm/township roads.
