10 Letter-winners Back for Central Mountain Swimming

LOCK HAVEN – This will be a year of transition for the Central Mountain swim team as veteran coaches Jim Merinar and Carol Matheney will be stepping down at the end of the season. But before they go, Merinar with 10 seasons and Matheney with six, both said they look for a solid season from the squad, 18 members strong, including 11 returning letter-winners.

The boys’ and girls’ team will start the season on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Bloomsburg. First home meet, at Lock Haven University’s Zimmerli Pool, will be Tuesday, Nov. 17 with Montoursville.

The coaches told The Record, “We have great leadership, skills and experience. The team is developing a great chemistry as well, mixing our veterans with our new first-timers. We expect a fine season, both for the girls and boys.”

Returning lettermen are Parker Orndorf, Derek Hughes, Leisher Gugino, Evie Rembold, Mikayla Rich, Cleia Stern, Madison Bair, Morgan Brian, Caitlyn Dale, McKernna Fox and Hannah Brian. Seniors are Hughes, Rich, Nate Laubscher and Lena LeToure.
