Crickets Qualify for Regionals
BEECH CREEK – Another night. Another game. Another win. The Crickets put in another workman like performance against Mifflin County and came away with a narrow 2-1 victory to capture a berth at the regional tournament that has eluded them the past few seasons.
Beech Creek’s first score came in the second inning after Kenny Heverly drilled a hit to deep left field that enabled him to reach third base. Then Heverly scored on a sac fly by Clayton Butler.
The Cricket’s second score came as a result of of a set of twin doubles hit to almost the same spot by Chuck Probst, who scored when Kenny Heverly matched his effort in the batters box. Trapper Kunes, Cole Hanley and Bryce Hanley all contributed singles for Beech Creek.
Heverly also pulled duty on the pitching mound, going the distance holding the Mifflin County bats at bay giving up only two hits on the night. Heverly threw nine strikeouts while walking only two batters.
Next up, Beech Creek will get some travel time on I-80 West to participate in the regional tournament in Clearfield. Games begin this Saturday morning, though a specific schedule or potential opponents are not set yet.
