Clinton Knocks Off the Rust with a 10-0 Win over Towanda
LOCK HAVEN – The Clinton Junior All-Stars have been patiently waiting since the completion of the regular Little League softball season to take the field, as there were no other entries from District 12, they finally celebrated the Fourth of July by playing their first post season game against Towanda in the Section 3 tournament.
Clinton didn’t play a perfect game, but they played very well while shaking off the rust. Led by their pitcher, Adalyn McKeague, Clinton rolled up a 10-0 five-inning win over the District 15 champs.
McKeague was stingy in the circle only allowing 2 hits, 3 walks while striking out 3 Towanda batters. McKeague was also solid in the batters box pounding out 2 hits for a team leading 4 RBI for Clinton.
The Clinton bats found their measure beginning in the top of the second inning when Kelsey Burrows led off with a walk followed by Delaney Cohen and McKeague being hit by pitches to load the bases. Madison Toner would belt out a sacrifice fly ball to center field to plate Burrows.
Hana Styers would be hit by a pitch and Claire Long would get a base hit to score Cohen. Audrey Walker would then step in for a triple to plate Taylor Wahlers, who was pinch running for McKeague, Styers and Long to give Clinton a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning with two outs on the board, Cohen worked a base on balls and summarily stole second base two pitches later. McKeague would then pound out out a deep single that would score Cohen to give Clinton a 6-0 advantage.
In the top of the fifth inning Clinton went back to work at the plate.
Julia Schubach would take a base after being hit by a pitch then Bree Weaver put the ball in play and reached first base on a Towanda error. Cohen then singles followed by a big time double by McKeague to center field that scored Schubach, Weaver and Cohen. Styers would ground out to a fielder’s choice that would score McKeague to close out the scoring in the game.
The Clinton defense played well on the day and closed out the bottom of the fifth inning with only four Towanda batters coming to the plate.
Jaelyn Tripp also had a base hit in the game.
The two teams will play again Friday, July 5 at 6 p.m. at Clinton Field located at 32 Myrtle St, Lock Haven. If Clinton wins, they will be crowned Section 3 champions. If Towanda wins on Friday, there will be a winner-take-all game on Saturday at 2 p.m.
