Clinton Battles Back with 14-3 win over East Lycoming
OLD LYCOMING TOWNSHIP – After losing to South in the winner’s bracket final on Sunday, the Clinton Major All-Stars slowly built momentum to earn a decisive 14-3 win over East Lycoming in the lower bracket final.
The Win puts Clinton in a rematch in the District 12 finals slated for 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, at the Clinton Field in Lock Haven.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Clinton put up their first 2 runs in the top of the second inning using a base hit from Jayce Tripp, a bunt single from Ellie Heaton, a double from Kierstyn Reed, Karlee Gunsallus was hit by a pitch and double from Taylor Doyle. The effort gave Clinton a slim 2-0 lead.
East Lycoming picked up a run in the bottom of the third inning to narrow the gap to 2-1.
Then the Clinton Bats went back to work in the top of the fourth inning to play 6 more runs.
Sophie Mitchell reached base on an EL error, Heaton hit a single, Reed worked a walk, an RBI base hit for Gunsallus followed by base hits for Ava Doyle, Talen Kitnerand Rylan Andrews doing the dames to stretch the Clinton lead to 8-2.
Clinton would tack on another half dozen runs in the top of the sixth inning this time it was Tripp getting things started with a 1 out double followed by a base hit from Mitchell and a 2 RBI single from Brynn Swanger. Mallory Enters stepped in for an RBI single then Taylor Doyle and Kitner added base hits to the effort for a 14-2 lead.
East Lycoming would earn another run in the bottom of the sixth inning bit the effort would fall short closing out the scoring at 14-3 for the Clinton win.
In all, Clinton racked up 16 hits in the game with multiple hits for Tripp (single and a double) and 2 base hits each for Kitner, Mitchell and Heaton.
Tripp also went the distance in the circle allowing just 2 hits, 7 walks while striking out 7 East Lycoming Batters.
