MCELHATTAN – The home of a Wayne Township family was completely destroyed in an early morning fire on Tuesday, family members inside at the time escaping with the clothes on their back.

The home at 1868 Aaron Drive was occupied by John and Jodi Eck and their two children, Brady, 19, and Mallory 15. Brady Eck told therecord-online his father had departed for work as a teacher in Williamsport when the family became aware of the fire at 7:06 a.m. They immediately fled the two-story frame structure which was engulfed in flames when firemen arrived. The fire companies had to put down an estimated 14-hundred feet of hose from the nearest hydrant located near the Linwood Church. The house’s location is at the end of Aaron Drive.

A state police fire marshal was at the scene talking with family members to determine a cause. Brady Eck said the fire was discovered in the vicinity of the home’s electrical box located on the wall in the garage abutting and attached to the home. The fire also destroyed Mrs. Eck’s business, Adam & Eve’s Hair Salon, which was attached to the garage and home.

Brady Eck said his father had built the family home 20 years ago.

Firemen from all over the greater Lock Haven/Jersey Shore area responded to the alarm that came into the Clinton County Communication Center at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday.
