BENTON – It has been a storybook freshman season for Bucktail’s Emma Poorman and her Bucktail teammates. Thursday saw the frosh standout achieve every pitcher’s dream, a complete game no-hitter. It came at a game at Benton, part of the Lady Bucks’ 17-0, 4-inning win.

Poorman went the distance, striking out six, walking one and hitting one, facing 14 batters in all. She again helped herself at the plate, going two-for-two with a homerun, single and six RBIs; she was also walked two times and scored four runs. Her batting performance lifted her average to .788 on a 26-for-33 start. Her numbers include four doubles, one triple and five homeruns, to go along with 49 RBIs.

The Lady Bucks once again decided the issue in the first inning, plating 11 runs. They finished with 8 hits and were helped by Benton’s 14 walks surrendered and three errors.

Coach Mike Poorman was again able to work in many reserves and virtually all contributed one way or another. Emily Cross chipped in with a double and single and Jordan Burrows had two singles. Other singles came from Mariah Kepler and Julie Green.

The win put the Lady Bucks at 11-0, a school regular season record for wins and games won in a row. The loss dropped Benton to 0-12. Next up for Bucktail is a home Saturday game with non-league foe Cowanesque Valley (1-6), game time 1 p.m.
