Words of Grace – June 26, 2014

WordsOfGraceWhen we first came to Jesus for salvation from our sins, we did not know what was happening behind the scenes. God the Father was drawing us to the Son.

“No man can come to me,” Jesus said, “except the Father which hath sent me draw him” (John 6:44).

God revealed to the prophet Hosea that we are drawn to the Lord “with cords of a man, with bands of love” (Hosea 11:4).

Cords are twisted together and intertwined to make a rope. The Lord used a rope as a word picture to describe how strong His love is. He drew us with the ropes of love.

Jeremiah wrote about these ropes of God’s love. The Lord appeared to him and said, “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee” (Jeremiah 31:3).

Charles Spurgeon used a rope to illustrate saving faith. “Faith has a saving connection with Christ,” he said. “Christ is on the shore, so to speak, holding the rope, and as we lay hold of it with the hand of our confidence, He pulls us to share.”

T.L. Cuyler wrote about when a miner looks at the rope that is about to lower him down into the deep mine. He may think that he has faith in that rope as being well made and strong, but when he lays hold of it and swings down by it into the chasm, it is then that he is believing on the rope.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!
