Man Dead, Standoff Over at Waterville

WATERVILLE – A man who barricaded himself inside a home behind the Waterville Hotel is dead, killed by state police when he opened fire during a standoff situation.

State police confirmed the death of the so far unidentified man. They said the man had called 911 before daybreak Monday to request assistance. When emergency personnel arrived, police said, they found a barricaded gunman. Multiple state police from the Montoursville and Lamar barracks, along with a SWAT team responded.

Police said the incident ended when the man opened fire. They said fire was returned, killing the man. Time of the shooting was about 12:30 p.m., according to authorities.

The hotel is located along Route 44 near where Little Pine Creek empties into Pine Creek.
