Wildcats Earn Team Title at Buckskin Holiday Classic

LANCASTER – It was another hard-fought day for the Wildcats at the Buckskin Holiday Classic where Central Mountain picked up enough wins in the final round to fend off the other challengers for the team title … all without crowning a champion themselves.

The Wildcats had two wrestlers competing for individual titles in Johnny Shreffler (120) and Dalton Bechdel (126).

Shreffler was handed a major decision loss by Father Judge’s Eamonn Logue while Bechdel was edged, 4-2 by Liam Logue, also of Father Judge.

Even though Father Judge had the advantage in head-to-head matchups in the final round, it wasn’t enough to surpass CM in the team race. Late in the round, Father Judge closed the gap, trailing by only four points. Then the Wildcats rallied to claim the team title.

It was falls from Taylor Weaver (113) and Tanner Riggle (220), a major decision from Cody Coleman (138), and decisions from Derek Keen (106) and Alonzo Henry (152) that sealed the team title for the Wildcats.

The final individual tally shows Shreffler and Bechdel finishing second with third place wins for Keen, Weaver and Edwards. Tanner Riggle finished fifth while Nikolas Miller (195) placed sixth. Coleman and Henry both placed seventh in the tournament.

Edwards also received the Most Falls in Least Amount of Time Award

Central Mountain finished with 177.0 followed by Father Judge, 167.0; Central Dauphin, 159.5; Owen J. Roberts, 139.5; New Oxford, 125.0 to round out the top five teams. Bellefonte finished in ninth place with 115.0 while Shikellamy, ended the day at 12th with 102.5, Philipsburg-Osceola, finished in 15th with 90.0 and Jersey Shore was 26th with 30.0.

The Wildcats will have a few days off from competition to greet the New Year and will next see action when they will travel to Milton on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2018.
