Lady Wildcats Show Improvement in 74-57 Road Loss to P-O

PHILIPSBURG – The Lady Wildcats opened up the 2018-19 season with a road trip to Philipsburg-Osceola for a non-conference contest.

P-O rolled to a 74-57 win, but the Lady ‘Cats showed marked improvement over their performance of the past several seasons that suffered from offensive woes.

The Lady Mounties doubled-up on CM in the first quarter for a 22-11 lead, but Central Mountain battled back with 12 points in the second quarter just behind the 15 point effort by Philipsburg-Osceola, still trailing the hosts 37-23 at the break.

Then P-O poured on some more pressure in the third quarter with a 19-9 effort to hold a 56-34 lead over the Lady Wildcats with one period remaining.

Undaunted by the scoreboard, CM put forth a 23-18 effort in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

Quinlynn McCann set the pace for Central Mountain with 15 points followed closely by Mia Kopysciansky with 13. Avery Baker tallied 10 points with Alyssa Fisher scoring 6 points. Morgan Wetzel picked up 5 while Sumer Flanagan scored 3. Katie Burrows and Olivia Anastos each scored 2 points while Maddy Smith picked up a free throw.

Next up for the Lady ‘Cats will be their first conference action when the host Milton on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018.
