CASTANEA — At the Castanea Township meeting on Monday, May 5, the supervisors shared several updates regarding upcoming events and enhancements in the township.
First, residents were reminded of the Clinton County Solid Waste Authority’s residential tire collection days scheduled for Friday, May 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. As a courtesy to township residents, Castanea Township will be offering a free tire pick-up service on Friday, May 9, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to take advantage of this service should place their unwanted tires at the end of their driveway or sidewalk before 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
In addition to tire pick-up, township residents may also drop off unwanted tires at the Castanea Township Municipal Building, 347 Nittany Road, on Friday, May 9, or at the Wayne Township Landfill Recycling Center, 337 Pine Mountain Road in Lock Haven, during the scheduled collection hours on both dates.
Residents are permitted to dispose of up to 12 car and/or light truck tires free of charge, whether the tires have rims or not. Proof of residency in Clinton County is required to drop off tires at the Wayne Township Landfill, and charges will be applied to “out of county” tires. Please note that tire collection is not available to tire dealers, service stations, repair garages, tire sales outlets, or similar establishments.
In addition to the tire collection initiative, township supervisors also announced an upcoming educational opportunity for seniors in the community. On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Castanea Township Building will host a free Senior Scams Prevention presentation that will be facilitated by representatives from the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office. The event will provide valuable information to elderly residents on how to recognize and avoid scams. Castanea Township supervisors encourage local seniors to attend, and they emphasize the importance of being aware of scammers who commonly target seniors, resulting in significant financial loss.
The Castanea 2025 events calendar is now available to view on the township’s website, allowing residents to stay up-to-date about upcoming events and activities. Additionally, the date for the 2026 Chestnut Festival has been set for Saturday, January 24, 2026, and this information is also posted online, with further details to be provided in the coming months. Transitioning to local improvements, Chairman Coleman provided an update on the ongoing renovations at Harvey’s Run Park on Nittany Road in Castanea. He reported that the township has finalized and placed orders for new playground equipment to be installed, and removal of the existing playground equipment is already underway. Coleman noted that the upper portion of the park, which includes the swings and the train, remains open and accessible for the time being. Wet, swamp-like ground conditions have delayed the park’s renovations recently, but construction will resume as weather permits and the area dries out.
In addition to the new playground structures, Harvey’s Run Park will feature a new terracotta rubberized surface surrounding the immediate play area, further enhancing safety and accessibility for children and families.
Looking ahead, residents are reminded that the next regular Castanea Township meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 2, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. All township meetings take place at the Castanea Township Municipal Building, located at 347 Nittany Road in Castanea.
