Bellefonte Outpaces Wildcats, 64-49
BELLEFONTE – Everyone involved with the Central Mountain boys’ basketball program was well aware that the season opener with Bellefonte would be a big test for both teams. The Red Raiders passed that test with a better grade, handing the Wildcats a 64-49 loss.
The ‘Cats had a 33-26 advantage at the half but faltered in the third quarter when Bellefonte struck with a 21 point effort while Cm could only muster 6 points in response, now trailing the Raiders, 47-39.
Bellefonte kept up the pressure in the final period outpacing the Wildcats, 18-10 solidifying the 64-49 win.
Collin Jones put up 21 points for CM followed by 10 points from Jake Skrtich, 8 from Tanner Lavelle and 6 more from J T Pentz. Zane Probst and Conner Soo had 2 points each in the game.
“Free throws at the end extended their lead,” shared CM head coach Tyler Bardo, “We had some reluctance to attack the gaps from the perimeter and that allowed them to extend their zone and turn us over far too much,” he explained.
“We played good basketball in spurts,” said Bardo, “Now we look to continue to develop as a team and individually. Not displeased with our play overall, but the group is understanding that we will need to improve and find others to step up and become more consistent for us.”
Next up for Central Mountain will be a road trip to Danville on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018 for their first PHAC of the season.
