Big News for a Small Plane

During a very special opening ceremony for the 2014 Sentimental Journey Fly-in on Tuesday June 17, 2014, it was officially announced that the Pennsylvania State General Assembly and the State Senate had passed House Bill 1989 naming the venerable Piper Cub J-3 as the official state airplane. LOCK HAVEN – Those who hail from Lock Haven are well aware of the historical impact Piper Aviation and the venerable “Piper Cub” has influenced human flight in the 20th century.

The Cub made it possible for the average citizen to pursue their desire of flight with a true “fly by the seat of your pants” experience that fed the American desire for independence and self-sufficiency which became popular with enthusiasts around the globe.

Today, thanks to the tireless support of several local elected officials the Piper Cub J-3 officially became the designated aircraft for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Honoring those who built the nearly 20,000 planes of that model designation an it’s contribution to our state and Nation’s history.
