LHU Dominates Black Knight Invitational with Four Champs and Team Title
Fehlman, Marsteller, Hazel and Haines Earn Individual Titles for Bald Eagles
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The No. 16 Lock Haven University wrestling team crowned four individual champions and the Bald Eagles racked up 136.5 team points in an all-around dominating effort that led to a team title at today’s Black Knight Invite, hosted by Army West Point.
DJ Fehlman (Warren, Pa./Warren), No. 3 Chance Marsteller (New Park, Pa./Kennard-Dale), Corey Hazel (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) and No. 9 Thomas Haines (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) all claimed individual championships at their respective weight class, and the four helped Lock Haven outdistance itself from second-place Army by 35 points.
Luke Werner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) and No. 16 Alex Klucker (Summerdale, Pa./Pennsboro) were all second today.
Jonathan Ross (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and Jared Siegrist (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) both placed third overall.
Fehlman went 4-0 and won the 141-pound title. He downed teammate-Shoop in the finals as the two continue to help the Bald Eagles show their strength at the weight class. Both Fehlman and Shoop are former NCAA Division I National Tournament qualifiers.
Marsteller was a perfect 3-0 on the way to another 165-pound championship. Both Hazel and Haines were 4-0 on the way to championships at 184 and 285, respectively.
Fehlman advanced to the finals at 141 thanks to three straight wins. He capped his 4-0 day and won the title with a 4-2 win over Shoop. Shoop was 3-1 on the day with two tech falls.
With the two tech falls on the day, Shoop moved to No. 2 all-time in school history with 29 tech falls. The current school record is 32.
Marsteller (165) was 3-0 and downed Army’s Owen Brown 5-3 in the finals. He opened the day with a dominating tech fall.
Hazel (184) was 4-0 and avenged a loss over Army’s Noah Stewart of Army in today’s 184-pound finals. Stewart, No. 1 seed today, downed Hazel last week at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic. Hazel won 11-5 today.
Haines rounded out the Bald Eagle champs today after he went 4-0 at 285. He used three straight decisions to book a spot in the finals where he recorded a win by way of medical forfeit over Buffalo’s Jake Gunning.
Werner went 2-1 with a pair of pins as he finished second at 125. His only loss came in the finals to Army’s Trey Chalifoux.
Klucker was 2-1 and finished second at 157. He fell in the finals to Columbia’s Danny Reed.
Ross was third at 149 and Siegrist was third at 174. Both were 4-1 on the day.
