MILL HALL – Two major commonwealth Republicans seeking re-election made a visit to the Paul Dotterer and Sons, Inc. farm today to speak with Clinton County and regional farmers and members of the agri-business community.

Agriculture is the single largest industry in the Keystone State with dairy farming the largest portion of the business. One of every seven workers in Pennsylvania is employed in the agriculture field facing the task of feeding our nation and the world. For Pennsylvania, farming is big business accounting for $67B annually with large concerns about political decisions made in Harrisburg and Washington D.C.

Gov. Tom Corbett made the visit to take the opportunity to share with constituents his record over the past three years in support of the family farm and agriculture in Pennsylvania. Corbett made a point of sharing how he not only held taxes check in the face of inheriting a $4.2B deficit but also has spent more on education than any other governor in the history of Pennsylvania.

Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R) who is the congressman for the Pa. 5th district, which covers 26% geographically of the state and a good portion of agriculture business, shared the importance of his committee work in Washington and how he takes the opportunity to share with everyone how important agriculture and the family farm is to our state. Thompson also shared how the number of family farms has significantly declined in the new millennium and his efforts to change legislation to ensure the traditional family farm has the ability to survive and thrive going into the future.
