LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven University wrestling team was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the 2018-19 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) title, as voted on by the league’s head coaches earlier this week. A total of five LHU wrestlers sit atop their respective weight classes to start the season and, in all, nine of 10 Lock Haven student-athletes were ranked among the top-three at their weight class in the preseason coaches’ rankings.

Returning All-American Chance Marsteller was tabbed as the preseason-favorite at 165-pounds, headlining a group of five who earned the No. 1 spot at their weight class. Marsteller was joined by Luke Werner (125), Alex Klucker (157), Corey Hazel (184) and Thomas Haines (285). Kyle Shoop (141) and Jared Siegrist (174) were both ranked No. 2, while DJ Fehlman (133) and Jonathan Ross (149) were both listed at No. 3. Blake Reynolds was ranked No. 7 at 197.

Werner, Klucker, Marsteller, Hazel and Haines were all unanimous No. 1 picks, earning six first-place votes (30 points) at their weight.

Individual rankings were done on a 5-4-3-2-1-0 basis, with coaches not allowed to vote for their own wrestlers. Ties were broken based on the wrestler who was ahead on more ballots. Team rankings were done on a tournament-points rubric, on a 12-9-5.5-3.5-.5 scale for the top-five wrestlers at each weight.
