Lady Wildcats Battle Bellefonte for 3-0 Victory

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It took some time but the Lady Wildcat volleyball team has their first on-the-court win of the regular season as they battled Bellefonte for a 3-0 victory.

The first game of the night was a tightly played see-saw battle with Central Mountain and the Lady Raiders trading a 1 point lead for most of the game. As the game progressed, Bellefonte did manage to gain a little breathing room and held a 19-15 lead. The Lady Wildcats would not yield and fought back to a 21-19 advantage.

First CM led 22-21, then 23-22 and Bellefonte knotted the score once more. The race continued with the Lady ‘Cats inching forward and Bellefonte catching up.

The score was knotted once again at 26-all when Evie Rembold had her first of 4 kills on the night to regain the serve for Central Mountain. Bellefonte failed to return the ensuing serve to secure the 28-26 win for CM’s first regular season victory.

In the second game, Central mountain built a 13-7 lead only to see Bellefonte battle back to tie the score at 16-16. Then the Lady Wildcats started to pull away when Duck went on an 8 point service run that gave CM a 24-18 before a side out. Then Central Mountain collected the final point and the second game on defense.

In the third game it was more of the same with the several more ties and one point advantage that were short lived. On this night, the Lady ‘Cats would not be denied as they held on for a 25-23 win.

It had been a rough season for Central Mountain with an 0-3 start and their only previous win was a forfeit from Mifflin County. Tonight they improved their mark to 2-3 and as the evening progressed, it was evident to see a change in attitude as their confidence improved as they became aware they could accomplish more.

“Last Monday was tough,” said CM head coach Scott Garmin of hist team’s confrontation with powerhouse West Branch, “It helped us to get three good practices in last week and a tough weekend tournament,” Garmin explained.

“We put some stuff together and you could see the in the attitude and the flow tonight,” Garmin said of his team’s effort.

Next up for Central Mountain is another home game with St. Josep’s Academy, Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018.
