Corter Leads Ingram’s Market to Late 3-0 Win over Sons of Italy for Keystone LL Title

LOCK HAVEN – The Keystone Little regular season championship game between the top two teams in the Major division lived up to it’s billing.

Sons of Italy came into the game with the best record in the league at 12-2. Ingram’s Market was the No. 2 team in the regular season at 11-3. Though, one of the Sons’ losses came at the hands of Ingram’s Market earlier in the season. Tonight, Ingram pulled out the extra inning 3-0 win to edge Sons for the title, 3-0.

The teams battled for 6 innings with goose eggs still on the scoreboard with both teams making threats to score, and both defenses unyielding in the process.

Then it came down to the fateful seventh inning when Ingram’s Market plated their 3 runs on singles from Blake Walker and Gavin Burnell and Dominic Slota reached base on a fielder’s choice with Walker forced out at third on a head’s up play by Sons’ Colin Simander.

Next, Jase Seltzer would get on board when a fielder’s choice play came up short to allow Burnell and Slota to score. Seltzer would score on a passed ball to give Ingram’s the 3-0 lead.

Then it was up to Ingram’s Braylen Corter to preserve the lead with his steady right arm, that he did, striking out the side in order for the league championship.

In the win, Carter threw only 79 pitches in 7 innings work allowing only 4 hits, striking out 15 batters in the process.

On the mound for Sons of Italy it was Gabe Johnson working 5.2 innings allowing 1 walk and 3 hits, striking out 9 Ingram batters. Nate Wian came on in relief giving up 1 walk, 2 hits and striking out 2 batters in 1.1 innings of work.

Burnell had a pair of singles for Ingram with Walker, Slota and Drew VanGorder each producing a base hit for Ingram’s.

For Sons of Italy it was Colin Simander with 2 base hits and 1 single each from Wian and Kevin Grenninger on the night.

The Sons of Italy finish their season at 12-3 and Ingram’s Market checks in at 11-4 overall.

Now the nucleus of both rosters will join players from other league teams to participate in the District 12 tournament later this month.
