Central Mountain High School Graduates 285 Members of Class of 2018

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The fear of rain forced Central Mountain High School’s 19th commencement indoors but the school’s packed high school gymnasium thoroughly enjoyed Thursday evening nevertheless in a tradition-heavy ceremony which saw diplomas presented to 285 senior class members.

Student speakers included class president Macy Akeley, valedictorian Maegan Miller and salutatorian Matthew Schubach. All offered thanks to the educators and family members who helped them on the journey to graduation. For Miller it was a special night as she noted that her father Jay and brother Chad had also been valedictorians for their respective senior classes.

Keystone Central’s interim superintendent Dr. Al Lonoconus told the audience of the many accomplishments of the graduating seniors he observed during his four months in the district. And he acknowledged the students who welcomed him to the district in his new position.

Lonoconus referenced the late Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay and one game in particular, Halladay’s perfect game 1-0 win over Florida in 2010. He said graduation is much more than a ceremony, that Halladay’s performance required him to rely on his teammates, all the effort and help going in to pitch a no-hitter, similar to the support that the Central Mountain graduates had received during their years in school.

Musical selections included Rachael Karwowski performing “On My Way,” Rebeccah Brugard and Caleb Long performing “Footprints in the Sand” and Joshua Cox on the keyboard with Chopin’s “Raindrop Prelude.”
