Hook New Central Mountain Boys Soccer Coach; Brinker Out
FARWELL – Jeff Brinker is out, Bill Hook is in, as the new Central Mountain boys soccer coach.
Tucked away in the 12-page agenda for last week’s Keystone Central board meeting was a motion to employ Hook as head coach of the Wildcat soccer program, effective July 1. The agenda said, “Position is the result of all fall positions being opened.”
Therecord-online subsequently learned that both Brinker and Hook interviewed for the vacancy and Hook was the school district choice. Brinker declined to comment when therecord-online asked about his ouster.
Brinker had been the head coach since 2012. The Wildcats went 5-9-2 last fall. Hook is a former Central Mountain player and assistant coach. His salary was set at $6,018.
The school district had opened all fall coaching positions at the end of last season, part of a district move seeking a 25 percent cut in the negotiated pay for coaches. The district was unsuccessful in that effort but the school board is expected to consider a call from board president Charlie Rosamilia for a cut in the number of assistant coaches district-wide equal to 25 percent of the total pay for all coaches. The next board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23.
