STATE COLLEGE – Former Central Mountain/Lock Haven University basketball standout Joe Walker has resigned as boys’ basketball coach at State College High School.

Walker had been head coach of the Little Lions for four years, winning four District 6 championships. Over the last two years his teams went 45-7, including 24-2 in the recently concluded season, earning two Mid Penn Conference championships.

Walker submitted his resignation last week and notified player parents earlier this week. He told the Centre Daily Times, “It’s just kind of I’m at the point in my life where I want to start moving forward with some goals and plans of mine for the future.” He talked about the time commitment over the course of a season. He said he could see himself returning to coaching at some point in the future.

Another former Central Mountain standout, Sean Hanna, has been Walker’s assistant at State High. Both teach in the Centre County school district.
