Lady Wildcats Clip State; Move to 12-3
STATE COLLEGE – The Central Mountain softball team took a major step towards a high playoff seed with a 13-7 win at State College (9-5) Monday.
Coupled with a 10-1 win over Mifflin County (9-3) on Saturday, coach Dave Peters’s team has picked up wins over two other squads vying for the top seed in the District 6 Quad-A tourney set to begin May 21.
The win at State pushed the Central Mountain record to 12-3 heading to Altoona on Tuesday.
The ‘Cats brought their bats to the Monday game, pounding out 19 hits and scoring runs in every inning but the fourth.
Mariah Major was named the team’s player of the game based on her 3-for-4 performance with a double and two RBIs; she has now hit in nine straight games.
Major had plenty of offensive help. Moriah Lindsey had three hits, Lauren Russell checked in with three, including a double, triple and four RBIs. Madison Brown, Bree Hilty and Jess Strouse all had two hits apiece.
Rachael Shady pitched six innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs, to get the win.
