Wildcats B-Ball on Five Game Run

cm-baseballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – When the weatherman allows it, Central Mountain baseball has been mighty good of late, riding a 5-game winning streak into a Thursday make-up game at home with Loyalsock.

The Wildcats (7-2) were on a tear late last week, piling up wins over Mifflin County, 6-1; Punxsutawney, 9-2; and a Saturday dusting of Hollidaysburg by an 8-0 score.

They were scheduled to host Bellefonte on Tuesday of this week, but that game was lost to the weather and will not be made up. Still to go are a makeup game at home with Loyalsock on Thursday and a home contest with Penns Valley Friday.

As has been the case in the recent solid Wildcat play, it has been pitching and defense, none exemplified more so than sophomore right-hander Toner Corl.

A standout on the Wildcat jayvee squad a year ago and just a few years removed from Keystone Little League play, all Corl has done is make three starts, pitch three complete games and pick up three wins.

His most recent was the 3-hit 8-0 gem over Hollidaysburg, the Wildcats avenging an early season loss to the 5-and-2 Golden Tigers.

For Corl it was two straight shutouts and he lowered his earned run average to .067. As a team the Wildcat ERA is an unheard of 1.45 runs per game.

Juniors Caleb Seyler and Dylan Kerstetter had two hits each in the game, each with two RBIs and Seyler with a double; eight different Wildcats scored.

The win over Mifflin County saw Seyler pitch his second straight complete game, spacing nine hits, striking out 8 and walking none. Senior Russell Yost and Kerstetter had two hits each.

Juniors Zach Skrtich and Kenny Heverly split the pitching duties in the win over Punxy, Skrtich going four innings, giving up two runs and striking out 8 while Heverly got the win in relief, hurling three shutout innings and striking out 5 Chucks.

As a team Central Mountain is hitting .339, led by four juniors, Clayton Butler’s .481, Skrtich at .429, Kerstetter at .419 and Heverly at .409.

The most recent MaxPreps computer standings have Central Mountain as ranked 14th in Pennsylvania.
