School Board’s Shafer Recognized for Service
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – A veteran Keystone Central School Board member who has given his adult life to education was recognized by the school district Thursday night.
The November school board meeting was the final one for Mill Hall/Lamar Township representative Tom Shafer. Superintendent Kelly Hastings presented him with a gold school bell for his 12 years on the school board. Hastings noted that Shafer had previously served in education for 40 years as a teacher and coach.
Shafer, who did not seek another term in next week’s election, received a standing ovation from fellow board members and those in the audience at the Central Mountain High School cafeteria. He called his final meeting “bittersweet” and said “it’s now someone else’s turn.”
