Lady Wildcats Bounce Back Against Chucks
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP — The Central Mountain softball team showed some resiliency and some new faces in a Thursday 9-3 win over Punxsutawney. The Lady Wildcats came bouncing back after their first loss of the year, 4 to 2 at undefeated Philipsburg-Osceola on Wednesday.
Central Mountain (9-1) wasted little time in getting untracked, putting up four first inning runs en route to a season high 18 hits. The team’s three through six hitters all put up three hits each, Jess Strouse and Lauaren Russell with three singles each, Jordan Kaler with two doubles and a single and Rachael Shady with three singles.
Russell finished with two RBIs, Kaler with two and Shady with three. Mariah Major and Moriah Lindsey had two singles each.
Coach Dave Peters was able to give Shady some time off from the circle after she had started Central Mountain’s first nine games. Sophomores Emily Strouse and Madison Brown shared the pitching duties, Strouse going 5 and 1/3 innings to pick up the win, Brown an inning and two-thirds in scoreless relief to record the save.
Central Mountain returns to action Saturday, hosting its Thunder on the Mountain tourney, meeting DuBois in a 9:30 a.m. semi-final; Jersey Shore and Mifflin County follow in the other semi-final. The consolation final is set for 2 p.m. and the championship game at 4 p.m.
