Local Schools Celebrate Completion of PSSA Exams at LHU

LOCK HAVEN – For months, teachers and students at Keystone Central School District have prepared for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams. On April 10th, it was not your ordinary pizza party celebration to celebrate the end of testing. The students of Mill Hall and Dickey Elementary Schools celebrated the PSSA Exams being over for the academic year in a very unique way, with the help of Lock Haven University’s Health and Physical Education (HPE) Department.

Mike Hall, principal of both schools, worked with Dr. Kim Everhart to organize the event that highlighted the elementary schools’ 3rd, 4th and 5th grade boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, as well as recognized the students who participate in many other types of activities.

The entire student body from both schools was on campus to cheer on their school’s team as Dr. Everhart announced the game and recognized students for their involvement in extra-curricular activities. LHU HPE students supervised the students as they entered and exited, as well as monitored the crowd during the event. HEP students ran the scoreboard for all games as well.

The LHU mascot, Talon the Bald Eagle, joined the Central Mountain Wildcat mascot in entertaining and supporting the crowd of elementary students during the event. A special highlight during a break between the boys and girls games was a dunking exhibition by LHU men’s basketball player, Bootsie Walker.

Following the basketball event, all of the students enjoyed a bag lunch on the LHU campus lawn.
