BELLEFONTE – U.S. Representative Glenn Thompson, PA-5, has announced he will be holding an outreach event for veterans on Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m. in Lock Haven.
The informational seminar, which will include officials from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), and the Small Business Administration (SBA), is open to all military, veterans, and their families.
VA officials will discuss health care benefits, readjustment benefits, continuing education, and housing assistance programs. DOL officials will discuss veterans preference and reemployment rights, licensing and certification, specific assistance to female veterans, and employment and training programs, including the Transition Assistance Program (TAP). SBA officials will discuss resources, including grant opportunities, available to help start or grow businesses.
Following the presentations, officials will be available for questions.
In addition to department and agency representatives, Thompson and his staff will be on hand during the event to answer questions, assist veterans with casework, and schedule future meetings with departments and agencies.
Rep. Thompson’s veteran outreach will coincide with related activities and meetings. During the first week of May, a Thompson release said, he will be meeting with Guard and Reserve units from across the district. On May 23, prior to the informational seminar, he will attend Clinton County’s Veteran Memorial Day Service. The seminar is scheduled for the American Legion Post on Grove Streeet.
