8-0 Start for Shady, Lady Wildcats
WINGATE — The Central Mountain Lady Wildcat softball team remained perfect on the 2014 season with a hard-earned 2-1 win over Bald Eagle Area (2-2) on Monday.
Senior pitcher Rachael Shady moved her record to 8-0, as did the Lady Wildcats who have a trip to Philipsburg-Osceola on Wednesday, a home game with Punxsutawney on Thursday, followed by the team’s annual Thunder on the Mountain tourney on Saturday.
At BEA the Lady Wildcats struck first as Moriah Lindsey singled and eventually scored on a Lauren Russell sacrifice fly. Central Mountain scored again in the second when Bree Hilty scored on an Avery Shaffer sacrifice fly. The Lady Cats pounded out 11 hits, as every starter in the CM lineup had a hit.
However the Lady ‘Cats stranded runners in scoring position inning after inning. BEA hung tough, and eventually scored a run in the fifth and threatened again in the sixth with runners at second and third and two outs. However, the CM defense held firm and squashed the threat. Mariah Major and Shaffer each had multiple hits while Shady had another dominant performance on the mound. She scattered four hits over seven innings and racked up seven strikeouts, walking none.
