Keystone Junior All-Stars Topple Montgomery, 13-2

MILL HALL – The Keystone Junior All-Stars opened their District 12 tournament with Montgomery today earning a 13-2, 5 inning victory.

Montgomery won the coin toss and chose to be the home team which offered Keystone the first at-bat for the game. The Keystoners wasted little time put up a couple of runs to set the tone for the game.

Brady Williams led off with a walk, then with one out, Peyton Johnson reached first on a fielder’s choice. Then with two outs, Keystone starting pitcher, Landyn Carson helped his own cause with by pounding out a solid double with Nick Long following in stride with a solid base hit to plate Johnson and Carson to give Keystone a 2-0 advantage.

Keystone and Montgomery held each other in check until the top of the third inning when Johnson smacked out his first of three singles on the day with Carson working a walk and Johnson would eventually score on a wild pitch. Montgomery answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to make the score 3-1 in favor of Keystone.

Then in the top of the fifth inning, the Keystone bats really came to life. Storm Long pounded out a base hit to get thins started, then Devin Parker went down low to lay down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Long into scoring position. Then Noah Grenninger and Brodie Miller worked walks to load the bases. Then the Hit Parade stepped off with back-to-baqck doubles from Williams and Erick Hoy followed by another single from Johnson to add 5 more runs, giving Keystone a 8-1 advantage.

Montgomery responded with a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning to close the gap but still trailing 8-2.

In the top of the fifth inning it was more of the same for Keystone as they tacked on another 5 runs as a result from another single from Storm Long, a walk from Grenninger while Parker and Miller both reached base after they were hit by pitches. Then Williams pounded out his second double of the day with Johnson hitting his third base hit to give Keystone a comfortable 13-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Keystone retired the side in order to finish the game under the mercy rule.

That Keystone defense was lead by Carson on the mound who tallied 4 strikeouts while yielding 3 walks and 4 hits.

Keystone will next travel to Loyalsock on Monday, July 3, 2017 to face South Williamsport.
