The corned beef is here …

It pays to buy locally. Corned beef is an example, at least for this past weekend. Corned beef lunch meat at Wal-Mart was $7.98 a pound. At Lingle’s here in Renovo it was $4.99 per pound. Quite a saving and you didn’t have to travel 30 miles with gas at $3.69 plus a gallon.

The eggs in one basket …

Some Comcast customers might see last week’s six hours without television, telephone or internet service as a good example of why it’s not a good idea to put all our eggs in one basket. Those here in we stern Clinton County who had Verizon or other telephone service than Comcast still had phone service.

Bucktail Medical Center was among those of us without telephone service all of Wednesday evening. Cell phones did work however, CEO Thomas Foster said. He said that his assistant Tina Schoonover from North Bend handles communication and information technology issues for BMC. When she realized the Comcast phone service was out for all this area she went over to BMC to make sure communication needs were available.

The luck of the Irish …

Guess it was the luck of the Irish for Tim Horner aka Tim O’Hornigan this past weekend. Tim was a winner at the NRA dinner at Morrisville. On Sunday evening he won the egg sitting contest at the Sportsman’s. The egg sitting (balancing) contest the new past time among a group of retiree regulars at the restaurant. The object is to stand e an uncooked egg on end. The winner is the one whose egg stands for the longest time. O’Hornigan, who was able to stand a egg on end more times and for longer lengths of time than his competitors, is closely related to Tim Horner, chairman of the Chapman Twp. Supervisors. Bud Hallberg came in a not so close second.

Katie introduced the game. The local retirees were so into the sport Wednesday eve that when the group of people in the area for the bear count arrived, quite a few of them joined in and took turns practicing balancing eggs as they waited for their dinners.

The retirees said that rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but they say balance act is possible on the day of the equinox because of planetary alignment and the length of day and night are the same. Some say brooms can also be balanced on the equinox for the same reason.

Me, I’m wondering if the eggs can be balanced at other times as well. Whatever the case, and if the game continues they’ll be buying eggs by the case.

Come back to Aquasize …

The ladies in the Aquazsize group at Western Clinton County Recreation Center are looking for more people join them Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at nine o’clock. The water is warm and wonderful and it’s a good way to get in shape for the coming summer, they said.
