Poorman Family Supports LH Catholic School Campaign

poorman-donation-140305LOCK HAVEN — Stephen and Pamela Poorman of Lock Haven have made a $50,000 contribution to the Lock Haven Catholic School expansion program. The Poormans also announced a long-term endowment to the West Water Street school.

The funds have been earmarked to provide a new cafeteria within an 8,000 square foot annex that is soon to be located adjacent to the existing school.

Currently the 161 students must cross Water Street to eat lunch. The new cafeteria will become part of an addition to house two new classrooms, along with a new gymnasium. The new classrooms will allow the addition of grades 7 and 8.

To also support the arts, the Poormans contracted with the Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra to conduct a program known as “Mozart in the Classroom” under which students can participate in making music with five professional musicians from State College. The Poorman grandchildren, Caleb, Kathleen and Colin have all attended the school.

Mr. Poorman said of the commitment, “The school is still in need of additional funds to complete the project. We are hopeful this gesture will spur others to remember the importance of providing an education to young people, and that they will include the Lock Haven Catholic School in their gifting plans. Come on. It’s all about the kids.”

A Poorman family release said the contribution is part of their $1.1 million commitment to support the Ross Library, Millbrook Playhouse, Lock Haven Area Jaycees, Lock Haven YMCA, Lock Haven University Foundation, Highland Cemetery, Clinton County Women’s Center, Clinton County SPCA and Heisey Museum,
