Wildcats at District 6 Team Duals (Live Audio Stream)
TYRONE – One given about Central Mountain wrestling, come the first week in February the Wildcats will be participating in the District 6 AAA team duals. Central Mountain will be looking to make the district finals for the tenth straight year later today.
To reach the championship contest, they’ll have to take a 4 p.m. semifinal over number four seed Bald Eagle Area (11-4). The undefeated Wildcats (13-0) downed the Eagles by a 45-15 score in December. A win in the semifinals will get the Wildcats into the finals against the winner of the other semifinal, number two seed Bellefonte (16-1) versus number three seed Altoona (11-5); the Red Raiders beat Altoona by a 41-22 score earlier in the year.
Central Mountain has a 6-3 record in the district team finals, taking the crown in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Mifflin County ended that string in 2013. The Wildcats came back with a 26-25 win over the Huskies in 2014 but Mifflin County took the title the last two years, 32-31 in 2015 and 39-16 a year ago. The Huskies failed to qualify for the 4-team tourney this season.
Central Mountain and Bellefonte had their regular season contest postponed earlier this week due to the weather. It will be made up at the Wildcat gym on Friday, Feb. 17.
Tonight’s champion moves on to the PIAA team duals in Hershey starting Thursday, Feb. 9. The District 6 champ gets the District 11 runner-up (barring an upset, either Nazareth or Bethlehem Catholic) in a 6 p.m. opening round contest.
The record-online will offer live audio stream of the match and will also broadcast audio on WBPZ AM 1230 with John Lipez and Tom Elling offering up the call to bring you all the action. The stream will go live approximately 15 minutes before each match begins.
