Lady Phoenix Triumph on Senior Night with 7-2 Victory Over Benton

BOONEVILLE—The Sugar Valley Softball team played their final home game of the season on Senior Night, securing a solid 7-2 victory over the visiting Benton Tigers.

Benton struck first in the top of the second inning, but the Lady Phoenix responded with three runs in the bottom of the second. Sugar Valley added one run in the fourth and three more in the sixth for insurance. Benton attempted a rally in the sixth but managed only one run.

Sugar Valley tallied 10 hits in total, with Brynn Swanger leading the offense with three hits and two RBIs. Swanger doubled in both the second and fourth innings and singled in the sixth. Cheyenne Weaver and Dakota Holdren contributed with two hits each, while Hattie Cinnamon, Ellynn Scarborough, and Olivia Johnson each added one hit.

The Lady Phoenix shared pitching duties: Swanger pitched two innings, allowing one run, walking three, and striking out four. Holdren pitched three innings, striking out seven, walking two, and allowing no hits. Weaver closed the game, striking out two and walking four.

With this win, the Lady Phoenix improved their season record to 4-15.  Seniors on the team were Lilly Mundrick, Brynn Swanger and Dakota Holdren.

Next, the Lady Phoenix will play at Beard Field against Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy on Tuesday.
