LHU Sports Are Under Review
LOCK HAVEN — A day after the State System of Higher Education announced it was studying the future of Pennsylvania’s 14 state-owned universities, Lock Haven University confirmed today it is looking at the structure of its athletic department.
In response to an inquiry from the record-online, Doug Spatafore, the school’s director of athletic communications and marketing, released this statement:
“Lock Haven University is currently reviewing the structure of our athletic department. Internal discussions are on-going. Any changes which may occur as a result of these discussions will be announced as soon as they are finalized. We anticipate a formal announcement prior to the end of the Spring 2017 semester. Updates will be provided as they are available. LHU has no further comment at this time.”
The school presently fields NCAA programs in eight men’s sports and nine women’s sports. Therecord-online had learned recently from a school source that one male and one female sport would be cut as the university grapples with state system budgetary issues. Spatafore offered no comment on possible cut specifics.
