County Seeks Election Inspectors

LOCK HAVEN – Clinton County is looking for more than a few good men and women, actually 37 in all, to serve as poll workers in the May and November 2014 elections.

County voter registration director Maria Boileau Monday updated the county commissioners on the vacancies from all across the county.

She said the county has the 37 vacancies in elected positions on the boards of elections, namely Judge of Elections, Majority Inspector and Minority Inspector.

The empty slots come from all across the county, including Lock Haven where 11 slots are open in the city’s five voting precincts. Several county townships are without any occupants for all three positions at this point.

Boileau said letters have been sent to all election boards asking them to submit recommendations for appointments by March 15.

Election workers must be registered to vote and reside in the precinct. They will work from 6 am to 10 pm on Election Day, May 20 and November 4 this year.

The pay rate for Judge of Elections is $165 for Election Day. Mileage reimbursement is paid to the Judge of Elections if he or she delivers the election materials to the county building on election night. The pay rate for Majority and Minority Inspector is $145. An additional $15 is paid to the Minority Inspector if he or she accompanies the Judge of Elections to the county building on Election Night.

Boileau said the county does hold 2-hour mandatory training sessions for all new poll workers and a refresher course for all poll workers. Training time is not reimbursed.

She said filling the vacancies not decided at the ballot fall to the county commissioners as the county board of elections.
