Hinton nets 21, LHU soars in season-opener

lhu-hoopsSHIPPENSBURG – Freshman Amir Hinton(Philadelphia/Abington) scored a team-high 21 points to lead four players in double-figure scoring, which helped the Lock Haven University men’s basketball team (1-0) soar to a 94-53 season-opening win Friday night over Penn State Fayette (0-1) at the 2016 Wolf’s Bus Lines Classic hosted by Shippensburg University.

The contest marked the first of the two games for Lock Haven at the Wolf’s Bus Lines Classic. Last season, the Bald Eagles went 2-0 at the tournament.

Hinton was one of four players who scored double figures. He was 10 of 17 from the floor, and he added five assists and seven rebounds.

Craig Slade (Philadelphia/Constitution) scored 13 points and pulled in seven rebounds, and Jihad Barnes (Philadelphia/Philadelphia Electric Charter) added 13 points.

Ra’eese Hunt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) netted 12 points. Cole Renninger (Mill Hall/Central Mountain) put up five points, dished out four assists, hauled down three rebounds and had three steals.

Brahieme Jackson (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) led LHU on the glass and pulled in 11 rebounds. He also scored seven points.

As a team, LHU shot 49 percent and came up just short of the century-mark in the season-opening win. The Bald Eagles got 38 points off turnovers and 36 points from the bench.

Lock Haven is back in action again this afternoon in Shippensburg when the Bald Eagles take on Penn State Wilkes-Barre at 3 p.m.
