LHU women win opener over Concord
FAIRMONT, W.Va. â Mackenzie Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./IUP) was one of three players to score in double figures (16 pts.) and Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to power the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (1-0) to a 62-53 season-opening victory over Concord (0-1) at the 2016 MEC/PSAC Challenge hosted by Fairmont State University on Friday night.
The 2016 MEC/PSAC Challenge features two Mountain East Conference (MEC) teams in Concord and host Fairmont State along with LHU and Clarion from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
The Bald Eagles will take on host-Fairmont State later today.
Livingston shot 44 percent from the floor, hit one 3-pointer and added a 7 of 10 outing at the charity stripe in all-around strong offensive outing that resulted in 16 points. She added six rebounds.
Madison McHale (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) netted 12 points and Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College) added 10.
Freshman Maimuna Kenneh (Coatesville, Pa./Collegium Charter) was sensational in her debut and finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Emily James (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield H.S.) chipped in on offense with seven points.
Nine of Mealing’s 12 rebounds came on the defensive side.
LHU will take on Fairmont State at 5 p.m. today to cap LHU’s opening weekend.
