LHU Football Team’s 2016 home-opener Saturday vs. Edinboro
LOCK HAVEN — The Lock Haven University football team (0-1) hosts Edinboro University (1-0) Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Bald Eagles 2016 home-opener.
The Bald Eagles opened the 2016 season last Thursday (Sept. 1) at Clarion and despite a 41-24 loss Lock Haven found its form on offense in the second half. Redshirt-senior quarterback Caleb Walton threw for 392 yards and three touchdowns.
Edinboro opened its 2016 season and the Justin Lustig era with a 31-30 Week 1 win at Saint Joseph’s. Lusting was named the Fighting Scots head coach in January (2016), their 14th head coach in school history.
LHU Week 2 storylines:
• After Week 1, LHU’s passing offense ranks 10th in Division II (392 yards).
• Caleb Walton’s 392 individual yards are 11th best in Division II.
• Shawn Seif’s 170 receiving yards were the 12th best during Week 1 action.
Lock Haven vs. Edinboro:
Saturday’s game will mark the 55th all-time meeting between LHU and Edinboro. The Fighting Scots lead the all-time series 39-14-1 in a series that dates back to 1958, which opened with a 33-25 Lock Haven win. The two teams haven’t met since 2013 when Edinboro won 31-6. LHU has lost 13 straight to Edinboro and is looking for its first win over the Fighting Scots since the 2000 season (W, 20-16).
Walton airs it out, continues to rewrite record books:
Redshirt-senior quarterback Caleb Walton opened the 2016 season just like he capped 2015 – by airing it out and passing all over the field. In the Week 1 clash with Clarion, Walton was 29 of 50 for 392 yards, three TDs and no interceptions.
Walton now has 50 career TD passes, which are the second most in LHU history (he’s just 11 away from breaking the all-time mark. Walton’s 6,248 career passing yards are No. 2 all-time for a Lock Haven QB.

Linebacker Kevin Chapple, who spent the last three seasons at Urbana made his mark during his Week 1 Bald Eagle debut. He finished with a game-high 14 tackles including two tackles-for-loss. Entering Week 2, Chapple is ranked No. 2 among all active college (DII, DIII, FBS & FCS) football players in total TFLs with 50.
